How Is KR 8.4 Tracking?
The Speed & Scale Plan seeks environmental justice by closing gaps among racial and socioeconomic groups, beginning with the principle that education is a basic human right.
By seeking to assure universal education through age 18 for every citizen of the world, we can help all young adults gain the chance to succeed in life.
Closing the education gap focuses first on women and girls, since they are more vulnerable to the worst effects of droughts, food and water scarcity, and displacement. Each added year of secondary school increases a girl’s future earnings by 15 to 25 percent.
We are tracking the planet’s 129 million girls who are being denied the fundamental right to go to school. The goal is to cut that number to zero by 2040.
Data for KR 8.4 is sourced from UNICEF, which tracks primary and secondary school education levels for girls by country worldwide.
