How Is KR 9.4 Tracking?
Our Carbon Removal KR focuses on innovating solutions for capturing CO2 directly from the air and then containing it for centuries. Finding places to store all that carbon safely is really hard.
Even so, scaling carbon removal is a cornerstone of our plan to get to net zero by 2050. The immediate challenge is to lower the cost of direct air capture to under $100 a ton.
As Bill Gates says: “If somebody comes along who can do direct air capture for fifty dollars a ton, that would be really phenomenal. If you got it down to twenty-five dollars, it would be one of the largest single contributions to solving climate change that we have ever seen.”
Data for KR 9.4 is sourced from Bloomberg and Climeworks to track and report carbon removal projects.
